Artwork description In "Disoluciones", artist Alma Grondona constructs a pictorial territory where matter seems to undergo a constant process of transformation. The artwork unfolds as a space of transit between presence and disappearance, between what still retains its outline and what begins to dissolve into an atmosphere of veils, transparencies, and fragmentation. The composition, traversed by earthy tones, grayish blues, and vaporous areas, refers to a state of emotional and symbolic mutation. Sgraffito oil paint creates eroded layers, traces, and wear that evoke geological surfaces or sedimented memories, as if the image had been subjected to a slow process of internal dissolution. The pictorial matter does not remain static: it opens, breaks, melts, and reabsorbs into itself. The work conceptually dialogues with the scientific meaning of the term “dissolution”: a homogeneous mixture where the original components are no longer individually distinguishable, forming a new unit. However, Grondona transfers this notion to the existential and poetic plane. Here, dissolution is not only chemical; it is also emotional and temporal. The barely perceptible figures hinted at between the layers of color seem to emerge and disappear simultaneously. This visual ambiguity transforms the painting into a metaphor for human fragility: bonds that merge, memories that fade, identities that transform under the pressure of time and experience. The individual loses sharpness to integrate into a broader and more complex totality. The atmosphere of the work oscillates between the dreamlike and the introspective. There is a silent tension between construction and collapse, between permanence and evaporation. The central void, charged with a cold, diffuse light, functions as a space of suspension, almost like a threshold where matter abandons its known form to enter another state. From a contemporary perspective, Disoluciones can also be interpreted as a reflection on the dilution of modern certainties, emotional boundaries, and rigid identity structures. The painting does not offer closed answers: it proposes a sensory and psychological experience where the viewer is invited to complete and capture in time what is fading. In this work, Alma Grondona transforms the pictorial act into a process of absorption and loss, where matter and emotion merge until they become inseparable. The painting then ceases to represent something concrete to become an experience of transit, memory, and inner transformation.
