The gallery EsglaiArt had the pleasure of attending the London Art Fair on January 19, 2014, located in the 'Business Design Center' building in Islington.
With 4 exhibition levels of paintings, photographs, and sculptures, we enjoyed about 150 stands from different galleries around the world, with very polite and informative attention to collectors. We, as an external gallery and bloggers, have also been treated with excellence, being provided with all kinds of details, brochures, and allowed to take photographs that you will see throughout our Twitter and in this very blog.
What surprised us most about this fair is the quality of most of the works, with many of the most original and creative paintings, except for some with more exploited and repetitive ideas.
Among these new techniques and originality, we have appreciated different ways of approaching art, moving away from the ordinary or pre-established, such as the use of frames for paintings. We have seen how different artists play with presentation going beyond the canvas, for example, as we see in the image below, merging the frame with the painting or in the next one, where we observe frames with different geometric shapes.
Three-dimensional paintings have become one of the sensations of the fair, and we can see their development and improvement year after year. Games with light and the position of the artwork give a totally different experience to the observer every time they look at it, destroying old myths in the art world such as a collector can get bored of the work. With visually moving paintings, the effect and change are guaranteed for a long time.
It is interesting to see how some of the works, appreciated by the human eye, were very different from the images taken.
Digital designs, compositions, photo retouching and collages have taken a further step in the digitization of art, although their value decreases for every hour invested on the computer. The artist, gallery and collector still appreciate human creativity and leave technical and electronic skills for other more appreciated fields.
